Winner of the Residential Development Award

5-Residential Development-winner

67 Southwark Street

Designed by Allies & Morrison, 67 Southwark Street occupies a difficult corner site in central London. The 16-storey residential tower includes eight apartments, a penthouse suite, a ground-floor shop and a rooftop terrace providing panoramic views.

Fleetwood Architectural Aluminium was tasked with delivering the project’s glazing and aluminium rainscreen cladding. The design concept for the glazing was to create ‘floating’ bay windows constructed from Schüco FWS 50+ SG bespoke, unitised, glass-bonded curtain walling with aluminium-clad side returns. The units incorporate two 150 mm mullions and transoms fixed back-to-back to create an internal picture frame reveal.

The main challenge was to eliminate intermediate transoms in order to maximise the view. To this end, the large glass panes are structurally supported using 10 mm thick steel brackets. Elsewhere, the Schüco ASS 70.HI sliding door system is used for the balcony areas.

The jury praised the project team for its simple, effective and appropriate use of façade systems, as well as the crisp detailing employed throughout the building.
