Winner of the Individual House Improvement Award

7-individual house improvement-winner

Patten Road

Patten Road, designed by Matthew Giles Architects and carried out by L2i Limited, is a remodelled five-bedroom Victorian house in London. A large rear extension and replanned interior have resulted in a series of light-filled, open-plan family spaces. A new cloakroom provides separation and privacy from the entrance. The first floor incorporates a generous master bedroom.

Two further bedrooms are located at the top of the house with part of the attic converted into a family bathroom. The garden-facing extension accommodates a kitchen, dining area and family room. Generous ceiling heights and large sliding glass doors blur the distinction between inside and outside, while also ensuring good levels of daylighting.

The exposed roof structure provides additional ceiling height. Glazing between the structural timber beams is intended to visually lighten the appearance of the sedum-covered roof. The judges complimented the scheme on its refined detailing and ability to maximise daylighting
