profile 14 schueco.com 65Interview P R O F I L E : To what extent can the C2C principle be translated to the con- struction industry? M a r t i n L u t z : A house is not a T-shirt. This means that a building is not an individual product; instead it consists of hundreds of individual parts. The first C2C houses definite- ly won’t be built entirely from C2C products because they simply do not exist at the moment. However, we are seeking to continuous- ly increase the proportion of C2C products. We are now beginning the first projects that have as high a proportion of C2C products as possible – we call these buildings »in- spiredbyCradletoCradle«.We are convinced that in coope- ration with industry we will create ever more products to increase this proportion. Thus it is our goal, together with Schüco, to develop façade products which can be used in Cradle-to-Cradle projects, and we have already made a start. P R O F I L E : How is it possible to identify these certified products? V a l e n t i n B r e n n e r : For planners, a C2C certificate is an important aid in the selection of materials. Inves- tigations have been carried out into the finest chemical details of Cradle-to-Cradle- certified products and they are approved as harmless. Their recyclability is also veri- fied and regulated. P R O F I L E : Will C2C change the planning and construction process? V a l e n t i n B r e n n e r : It certainly will. The first step is to select materials that are free of hazardous materials and can be recycled. However, a building does not auto- matically embody the Cradle- to-Cradle principle just GRAFIKEN DRAWINGS Drees & Sommer AG Entwicklungsstufen der Themenschwerpunkte im Bauwesen Developmental levels of the main topics in construction Vom Energieeffizienzpfad zur »Circular Economy« From the energy efficiency path to the circular economy 1960 1970 1980 1990 2000 2010 2020 2030 Innovationen Innovations SCHNELL, GÜNSTIG FAST, COST-EFFECTIVE ARBEITSWELTEN WORKING ENVIRONMENTS ENERGIESPAREN SAVING ENERGY STOFFKREISLÄUFE MATERIAL CYCLES Energieaufwand für den Betrieb Energy expenditure for operation Baustoffaufwand Materials expenditure Baustoffe im Stoffkreislauf Construction materials in the material cycle Energieüberschuss Surplus energy + – 0 ENERGIEEFFIZIENZPFAD ENERGY EFFICIENCY PATH CIRCULAR ECONOMY Zeit Time Optimieren der positiven Einflüsse Optimisation of the positive influences Plus-Energie-Gebäude Plus Energy buildings Plus-Energie-Gebäude Plus Energy buildings Reduzieren der negativen Einflüsse Reduction of negative influences 19601970198019902000201020202030
