Security that reassures

Being able to trust that our home is safe allows us to relax when we are away.

Security with Schüco Secure

At home we can let our guard down because we know that we are protected. This creates one of the most important factors for our well-being: comfort. However, this precious sense of security can be easily shattered – by burglaries, which statistically occur about every six minutes in Germany. Complete protection from burglaries is not possible, but we can implement measures to significantly reduce the likelihood of a break-in.

Everything you need to know about burglar resistance

Common points of entry for burglars

Most break-in attempts – over 40% – are made through windows, sliding doors or patio doors on the ground floor – particularly those facing the garden.

Take advantage of funding

To be eligible for funding, windows must at the very least correspond to resistance class RC 2 (DIN EN 1627) and meet energy-efficiency requirements for insulation.

Retrofitting – even in old buildings

Components such as lockable window handles and sturdy additional bolts can be retrofitted quickly and effectively at any time.

A sense of calm

In a safe and secure home, stress levels are reduced – especially at night or while you’re away. Security technology has a powerful psychological effect – it provides a sense of safety and protection.

Keep an eye on the clock

Windows and doors are categorised into
Resistance Classes (RC) in accordance with the standard DIN EN 1627. These describe how
long a building component can withstand typical break-in attempts.

Resistance Class RC 1
Protection against the use of body-weight attacks such as kicking, shoving and shoulder charges. Barely any resistance time, no real burglar resistance.

Resistance Class RC 2
Protection against the use of simple tools such as screwdrivers, wedges, pliers and hacksaws. Resists for approx. three minutes.

Resistance Class RC 3
Protection against heavy-duty lever tools such as crowbars, hammers and hand drills. Resists for approx. five minutes.

Tested security

At the Schüco Technology Center, my team and I test the resistance of windows, doors and sliding doors. To do this, we simulate real break-in attempts, identify weak points during development and, as an accredited test institute, ensure that our certified products provide the protection they promise – so that you can leave your home during the day with peace of mind and sleep soundly at night.”

Nicolai Hannig, Head of the Security Tests team at Schüco

What level of protection is best for your home?

Schüco offers various feature options with regard to burglar resistance. The choice depends on your individual security requirements and the layout of your home.

Basic

The basic level of protection is very suitable for low-risk areas, such as difficult to access windows, and equates to RC 1.

Advanced

This robust protection is suitable for easy-to-reach windows, doors and sliding doors and for areas at greater risk in general. It equates to RC 2 and is recommended by the police as the standard level of protection for family homes.

High

This enhanced protection is recommended for areas that are particularly vulnerable or exposed, as well as houses requiring a high level of security, and equates to RC 3.

Windows and doors make your home more secure

Windows and doors play a central role in burglar resistance. With the right fittings and professional installation by qualified Schüco partners, you can significantly increase the security of your home.

Windows
• Lockable handles and robust locking points make it harder to lever them out
• Safety glass increases strength and effectively complements burglar resistance classes

Entrance doors
• Multi-point locks and protected hinges and locking cylinders increase resistance to break-in attempts
• Modern access systems offer security without the need for a key

Sliding doors
• Special fittings and safety mechanisms help prevent the door from being opened and lifted out
• Safety glass and additional locks increase protection

FAQs

What do RC2 and RC3 mean for windows and doors?

RC stands for the resistance class of a component and describes how well a window or door can withstand a typical break-in attempt. RC2 offers protection against simple tools and is seen as an important safety measure in private residential construction. RC3 goes one step further and is designed for more exacting requirements, such as when stronger lever tools are used. With regard to your home, this means more protection, more time to react in an emergency and a much greater sense of security in everyday life. It is always important to ensure that the design, fittings, glazing and professional installation work together seamlessly.

Is RC2 sufficient in family homes, or do you need RC3?

For many family homes, RC2 is an excellent, practical safety measure. It offers good protection for windows, doors and sliding doors and is seen as a tried-and-tested standard in residential construction. RC3 is appropriate where there is a greater need for security, such as in particularly exposed areas or in buildings requiring a higher level of protection. Which class is most suitable therefore always depends on the location of the building, the accessible openings and individual security requirements.

Does security glazing (e.g. P4A) really offer more protection?

Yes, security glazing can significantly improve burglar resistance. Security glazing increases the strength of the glass and makes it more difficult to break through the glazing quickly and deliberately. It can be particularly useful for ensuring a secure home if windows, doors or sliding doors are very easily accessible. However, the key factor is always the interaction of all security-related components – that is, the glazing, fittings, locking mechanisms and professional installation. Only when these elements form a coordinated overall solution does comprehensive protection emerge that truly delivers in everyday life.
