Driving sustainability forwards together

We question the status quo and continuously further develop our sustainability strategy. To do this, we engage with our customers, suppliers, business partners, employees as well as economists, politicians and scientists.

Schüco also always involves its stakeholders. We take into account the different perspectives and interests with regard to the sustainable development of our company and offer our central stakeholder groups a range of communication formats.

Employees

Approach: Our employees' performance and motivation make a significant contribution to our leading market position. We want to attract the best employees to our company and retain them for the long term.

Formats: Continuous dialogue and regular feedback sessions with managers, a social intranet site, CEO blog with comment and feedback options, regular employee surveys regarding, for example, satisfaction in the company.

Fabricators

Approach: Our partner companies in the metal, PVC-U window and electrical industries have a huge influence on the high-quality, environmentally and socially responsible fabrication and installation of our products. We support them with this through individually tailored services.

Formats: Individual consultations with a focus on CO₂e-optimised component production (“Schüco Carbon Control”) and economical building renovations (“Schüco Value Up”), twice yearly Metal Fabrication conference days with workshops, talks and live demonstrations, topic-related series of events in the Schüco showrooms, product and specialist training courses as in-person, online or hybrid sessions, participation in various exhibitions, particularly in the main BAU exhibition, where we welcomed almost 9000 guests from 70 countries, featuring podium discussions on the topic of “Mission for the future: the Building Revolution”.

Building owners and institutional investors

Approach: The safety and security of a building, as well as its legally compliant operation and the retention and increase of its value, are issues that are important to owners in particular. Key topics that we cover with our range of products, services and consultations include carbon-optimised building planning, consultancy on sustainability certifications, maintenance and energy-efficient retrofits, as well as smart energy consumption control in buildings using digital tools.

Formats: Individual consultation services that focus on reducing carbon (“Schüco Carbon Control”) and the management of existing buildings (“Schüco Value Up”), online configurators for the planning of maintenance and repair work for all manufacturers, practical training, group training and individual CPD courses

Local authorities, scientists and NGOs

Approach: We see ourselves as part of society and want to actively contribute to a good community, as well as initiate a sustainable transformation thereof.

Formats: Active membership of the “80 SekundenNeues Bauen” (“80 Seconds – New Building”) industry network, including as host of the specialist forum “Decarbonisation of the construction and property industry” in June 2024, long-term partnership with the WWF as a key partner, regular activities as a member of the Steering Committee of the Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft foundation, visits that provide insights into the business activities of Schüco, professional discussions and collaborative work with scientific partners at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Detmold, Bielefeld University and the University of Münster. Schüco has also supported the “Family Business Governance” endowed professorship at Bielefeld University for ten years. This provides students with a direct insight into our company through cooperative teaching formats, enabling them to work on current problems with us.

Other stakeholder groups

Suppliers are also among our main stakeholder groups with whom we discuss sustainability issues, for example as part of formally agreed supplier dialogues.

Commercial and private customers can also contact us via a hotline or e-mail to receive advice. It is equally important to us to maintain a regular dialogue with representatives in politics, which we achieve through active cooperation with associations, initiatives and networks.

Schüco and the WWF Germany

Since 2018, Schüco has been striving for greater sustainability in the building sector and working with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). As part of a long-term partnership agreed until 2026, Schüco and the WWF are working together to make an important contribution towards a sustainable economy. The aim is to increase the positive ecological impact of corporate activities in the building sector and to further reduce negative effects.

As a result of the partnership, Schüco has established ambitious, science-based climate protection targets and developed a supplier code to ensure environmental protection and human rights throughout the supply chain.

Over the coming years, the WWF will support us in particular to define and introduce effective carbon reduction measures.

In addition to the achievement of climate protection targets, we are also tackling issues that are especially relevant for the construction industry, such as resource conservation, circular construction, and the protection of biodiversity and freshwater reserves. As part of this, we are keen to integrate the principle of the circular economy even further into the development of new products, so that we can help buildings to be constructed in a way that conserves more resources in future. The WWF is also supporting this transformation within the company, checking the effectiveness of the measures we have introduced and ensuring that more and more concepts are gradually implemented.
