Schüco Low Carbon/Ultra Low Carbon Aluminium

In addition to standard aluminium, Schüco offers two other aluminium grades with a lower GWP value (Global Warming Potential): Low Carbon Aluminium and Ultra Low Carbon Aluminium. This is made possible by the use of recycled material as a raw material and by green electricity in the production of the aluminium.

Our Schüco low carbon profiles have a GWP value of less than 4.9 kg CO2e/kg aluminium. Our ultra low carbon profiles have a GWP value of less than 2.7 kg CO2e/kg aluminium and also contain at least 75% post-consumer material. The material flow is externally monitored and validated by DEKRA.

Cradle to Cradle certificates

The circular economy model we use for our aluminium systems relies on certifications in line with the Cradle to Cradle Certified® products programme. A total of 76 Schüco systems have already been certified as Cradle to Cradle. Here is our Silver certificate (pdf, 156,2 KB) and our Bronze certificate (pdf, 157,5 KB).

Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a registered trademark of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.

VinylPlus®

As part of the VinylPlus® initiative, Schüco Polymer Technologies is implementing objectives for sustainable raw material procurement, reduced emissions, energy-saving machine technology, sustainable processes and control of material cycles. This allowed the PVC-U products from Schüco Polymer Technologies to meet the exacting criteria of the VinylPlus® Product Label (pdf, 404,3 KB).

Find out more about VinylPlus® and how Schüco Polymer Technologies is committed to more sustainability along the entire PVC value creation chain.

ASI Performance Standard

The ASI develops industrial standards for the sustainable use of aluminium, from raw material extraction, production and use, through to recycling. Schüco a founding member of the ASI has been certified in accordance with the Performance Standard since 2019. You can download the ASI certificate (pdf, 96,9 KB) here.

CC_PVC_Balanced

The Schüco PVC-U material classes

By choosing the right materials, Schüco partners can actively influence the construction emissions in the building envelope.

With the BALANCED PVC material standard, profiles are manufactured with recycled material or a formulation that makes optimum use of resources in the inner core. Last year, 64% of PVC-U profiles were produced in this material class. This formulation that makes optimum use of resources only contains components that are necessary for the quality of the material, in order to conserve raw materials.

All PVC-U profiles in the RECYCLED PVC material class are guaranteed to contain recycled material in the inner core and, depending on the geometry, are supplied with a recycled material content of between 39% and 57%.

CC_PVC_Bio-Attributed (1)

With the new, particularly sustainable BIO-ATTRIBUTED PVC material class, partner companies receive PVC-U profiles based on non-fossil raw materials. In PVC production, crude oil is replaced by tall oil, a renewable raw material made from pine trees, which is a by-product of paper production. Compared to primary PVC made from crude oil, PVC made from tall oil saves up to 90 percent CO₂e in the manufacturing process for the same manufacturer. Bio-attributed PVC is integrated into the existing supply chains and production processes and can therefore also be individually combined with the BALANCED PVC or RECYCLED PVC material classes. The process is RSB and ISCC PLUS certified, which means that the raw material can be traced along the entire supply chain from the paper producer to the company's own production facility in Weißenfels, which is verified annually by means of an external certification process.

Rewindo

Rewindo is the voluntary recycling initiative of German PVC-U profile manufacturers for dismantled PVC-U windows, roller shutters and doors. A founding member of Rewindo, Schüco has been actively promoting PVC recycling for more than 20 years. With this commitment, we want to close the material loop so that almost all PVC units are recycled after use. The raw materials obtained in this way can be fed back into the production process – with no loss of quality.
