Private Home Polička

Visually light on steep terrain

This light-flooded villa is located near to the small Czech town of Polička. The architects from KAREŠ RAIS made clever use of the south-sloping land to set the scene for the building, with an upper floor that appears to float above the ground. Visual appearance and functionality are brought together in harmony both outside and inside.

Functional and expressive features

The villa is designed on a clear, rectangular floor plan. Behind this deliberate simplicity lies a carefully considered architectural concept. This gives the impression that the upper level is floating above the lower level. This aesthetic feature also serves a functional purpose: it provides a roof over the outside area in front of the living room and offers protection from the sun and rain. While the building is carefully integrated into the surrounding landscape through its materials and composition, the indoor areas can respond flexibly to the different needs of the occupants.

Indoor spaces flooded with light

The two-storey villa offers generous and individually usable areas thanks to a clearly structured spatial concept. The communal areas are located on the ground floor, while the upper floor serves as a private retreat. Generous glazing offers unrestricted views of the surrounding area and allows plenty of natural light to enter. Several floor-to-ceiling sliding doors open the rooms out onto the terrace, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The rooms are characterised by daylight, transparency and the feeling of lightness.
