From Art Nouveau to reinforced concrete

The Georgian capital of Tbilisi is located in Transcaucasia on the border between Europe and Asia.In addition to traditional constructions, magnificent Art Nouveau buildings and modernist Soviet structures, the cityscape is also characterised by numerous high-rise buildings. The King David towers are particularly striking because of their height and appearance. The load-bearing structure consists of a monolithic, reinforced concrete frame with rigid joints and cores in the centre of the building, which fulfil the wind load requirements and necessary earthquake protection. The floor-to-ceiling glazing captures the breathtaking panorama, which stretches all the way up to the snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus.
