Project details

Following the demise of the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (NDSM) shipyards in the 1980s, an attractive place for artists and cultural entrepreneurs was created on a large industrial wasteland in the north of Amsterdam. To ensure the area continues to grow without losing its impulsive, creative character, a new district has been developed that combines big & small, hustle & bustle and peace & quiet. The Pontkade district features pioneering architecture and builds a bridge between the NDSM’s industrial past and its vibrant future. Each unit, a mixture of residential, office and commercial spaces, is brought to life by its unique architecture and façade material. What they all share in common is their raw and rugged character – similar to the old shipyard – and functional architecture that reflects the industrial heritage of the old site. (AWS 70 special construction, AWS 70.HI, ADS 70 HI, FWS 50).
