Partnership for progress: Schüco and Fagval in Iceland

Iceland is considered one of the most fascinating but also most challenging regions in Europe when it comes to construction. The island is characterised by a harsh climate, strong winds, salty sea air and long, dark winters. Added to this are logistical challenges: many building materials have to be imported, construction processes must be planned precisely and materials must be able to withstand extreme stresses.

For architects, planners and metalworkers, this means that only systems that are uncompromisingly designed for quality, durability and precision will survive here in the long term.

Schüco systems mean quality for extreme conditions

Schüco systems meet precisely these requirements. Whether windows, doors or façades – all products are designed to adapt flexibly to local conditions and individual project requirements. Schüco's high quality standards, coupled with close cooperation between international teams of experts and local partners, ensure that customers worldwide can rely on uncompromising performance – even under extreme conditions such as those found in Iceland.

Comprehensive support – from the initial concept to production

Icelandic metal construction company Fagval decided to change its aluminium and system supplier – and has been relying on Schüco ever since. From the outset, the company was closely supported by Schüco experts: from analysing existing processes and selecting the right systems and machines to implementing the new software solutions. The entire process, from the initial contact to the delivery of the profiles, machines and software, took around six months.
The result is a fully optimised value chain – from planning and production to installation.

Architecture that can handle any climate.

Fagval relies on Schüco in Iceland – and for good reason. The diversity and performance of Schüco systems open up new design freedoms, even under extreme conditions. Whether wind load or rain: Schüco solutions combine design, precision and tested quality. For architects, this means security in every phase of the project – from the initial idea to implementation. The wide variety of systems allows for individual concepts and architectural expression without compromising on quality or performance.
Schüco stands for partnership on equal terms. Together with Fagval, buildings are created that meet the highest standards – technically sophisticated, aesthetically appealing and sustainably realised. This is how every vision becomes a building that stands the test of time.

Machinery reimagined – with the Schüco AF 510

A decisive step in the transformation process was the modernisation of production. Fagval completely renewed its machinery and opted for the Schüco AF 510 5-axis machining centre, among other things. This is a state-of-the-art system that enables maximum precision, speed and flexibility. Supplemented by other Schüco machines, such as the PDG e-Cut 600 double mitre saw, the GS 100 glazing bead saw, the EVM S corner joining machine and various additional modules, production has been significantly accelerated and manufacturing quality raised to a new level. Initial projects show that Fagval now manufactures much more efficiently and precisely – a clear competitive advantage.

Digital networking with SchüCal and Fabrication Data Centre

In addition to the hardware, the digitisation of processes played a central role. Before the transformation, many work steps at Fagval were carried out manually and without digital interfaces. Today, an integrated software architecture consisting of SchüCal, SchüCal MCo, ATHENA Complete |SE and the Fabrication Data Centre (FDC) ensures a seamless connection between planning, production and quality assurance. Data flows are transparent, programming is automated, and manufacturing precision has been significantly increased once again. This means that Fagval is optimally positioned for the future – efficient, digital and networked.

Success story of a partnership

The collaboration between Schüco and Fagval has paved the way for a new era of manufacturing in Iceland: more efficient, more digital and more future-oriented than ever before. By using state-of-the-art machinery, networked software solutions and partnership-based support, Fagval has sustainably improved its processes and significantly increased production quality. The result: noticeable improvements in everyday work, higher customer satisfaction and a growing order book. The project impressively demonstrates how Schüco sets new standards with innovative solutions and global expertise, even under the toughest conditions.

“What began as a promising enquiry quickly developed into a partnership based on trust, innovation and a shared vision for the future. If a manufacturer in Iceland can start producing Schüco equipment from scratch, then anyone can.”

Christian Geiler, Coordinator IT & Machinery Europe North, Schüco International KG

The collaboration is by no means over – it is only just beginning. Architects, Fagval and Schüco are working closely together to continuously optimise the manufacturing processes. This joint approach further increases efficiency and quality and enables the processes to be developed sustainably.
