The building which houses the ”History of the German Federal Republic“ which is less of a traditional museum, more of a document and information centre relating to recent German history, is the result of a competition in which 172 architects‘ practices took part. The open aspect of the 7.5 m high glass, steel and aluminium construction of the foyer stands in marked contrast to the ”introspective“ nature of the exhibition areas which are only lit from above. All the vertical glazing used Schüco profile systems.
