The campus is not only the place where Wang works. It is also the product of his work. With Amateur Architecture Studio, Wang designed all the buildings in two construc- tion phases. The guesthouse which is now complete marks the begin- ning of the third construction phase in which two other architects are significantly involved – the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza and Kengo Kuma from Japan. The fact that an entire university campus has been created under the di- rection of one single architect in the course of ten or so years is perhaps unprecedented. The tenacity with which Wang conveys his conviction theoretically and practically underpins his rise from humble designer to global champion for the preservation of traditional building culture.
