Verantwortlich dafür sind u.a. Bei LAVA haben wir Dr Rieck, Professor Wallisser, what will paramet- rics mean for the architecture and construction of the future? Rieck: The requirements of buildings have increased tremendously in the last few years. Recognition of issues such as energy efficiency, fire protection, as we are currently seeing in Berlin, safety and security in general and differentiated use is responsible for this. It automatically results in the building structure becoming more complex. Aside from this, there is a growing number of products and solutions from the industry. And last but not least, as architects, the computer is also providing us with completely differ- ent tools to respond to the requirements of clients. On the whole, this makes the buildings better, but also more complex. By using parametric systems, however, this leap in complexity is still manageable. Incidentally, in the construction industry we are sim- ply following the developments in other industries, such as the automotive, aviation or shipbuilding in- dustries. Of course, construction has its own special features, which is precisely why the systems and processes cannot be transferred one-to-one, but instead must be adapted. But it also seems absurd to us to assume that we could sideline construction from general advances in technology. At Fraunhofer we are very closely involved in these processes in the different industries, and we have been working on construction processes for more than ten years. Wallisser: I am particularly drawn to the freedom of parametric design. At LAVA, we have always worked in this way.
