Denn unser heutiges Han- deln bestimmt unsere Zukunft. Bettina Sigmund, Redaktion profile09 sector, as building maintenance is responsible for a large part of energy consumption. International ef- forts are putting great pressure on the construction industry. The latter is responding by developing in- novative technologies, by getting involved in new fields of research and using future-oriented materi- als and efficient systems. Areas such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) are also becoming more and more important. CSR is based on three pillars – social concerns, economic concerns, and environ- mental issues. Although there is now an ISO norm that evaluates this aspect, the principle is primarily based on voluntary participation of companies. profile09 picks up on the current debate about responsibility, asks technical, social, ethical, and moral questions, and relates them to the construc- tion industry. What responsibility does the build- ing sector have? What duties do architecture and architects have? How much should, or must, envi- ronmental and climate protection cost? What will a responsible future for coming generations look like? Experts from various industries talk about these is- sues, reporting from their perspective on the current state of affairs and discussing future scenarios. Con- texts and predictions for the construction industry are developed from social, political, and economic aspects and appraisals. For our actions today deter- mine our future.
