33portrait | LAVA – Laboratory for Visionary Architecture 09 LAVA Laboratory for Visionary Architecture LAVA wurde 2007 von Chris Bosse, Tobias Wallisser und Alexander Rieck als internationa- les Netzwerk gegründet. Im Moment arbeiten rund 30 Mitarbeiter an den beiden Standorten Stuttgart und Sydney. Chris Bosse arbeitete als Architekt unter anderem in Australien, der Schweiz und in Deutschland. Er hat mehrjährige Erfahrung in Forschung und Lehre an Instituten im In- und Ausland. Als assoziierter Architekt entwarf er bei PTW Architects in Sydney das National Swimming Center für die Olympiade in Peking. Das als „Water Cube" bekannte Schwimmsta- dion gilt als architektonische Meisterleistung und setzte neue Maßstäbe im Bereich des computergestützten Entwerfens. Tobias Wallisser ist Professor für Innovative Bau- und Raumkonzepte an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart. Nach dem Architekturstudium an der Universi- tät Stuttgart und der Columbia University New York arbeitete er bei Asymptote Architecture in New York und als assoziierter Architekt bei UNStudio in Amsterdam. In dieser Zeit war er u.a. für den Entwurf und die Ausführung des Mercedes Benz Museums in Stuttgart verant- wortlich, das als einzigartige Raumschöpfung weltweit Aufsehen erregte. Alexander Rieck forscht seit über zehn Jahren bei der Fraunhofer Gesellschaft und ist ausge- wiesener und promovierter Experte für Arbeits- und Büroorganisation, virtuelle Realität und Zukunftsszenarien. Er studierte Architektur in Stuttgart und in Arizona, USA, und arbeitete als Architekt in verschiedenen Büros in Deutsch- land. Derzeit leitet er die Abteilung Corporate Projects in München und arbeitet im Fraunho- fer Team an neuen Materialien, Technologien und Prozessen für das Bauen von morgen. LAVA Laboratory for Visionary Architecture LAVA was founded in 2007 by Chris Bosse, Tobias Wallisser, and Alexander Rieck as an international network. He has several years of experience conducting research and teaching at institutes in Germany and abroad. As an associated architect with Sydney-based PTW Architects, he designed the National Aquatic Center for the Beijing Olympics. The aquatic stadium, known as the “Water Cube”, is considered an archi- tectural masterpiece and set new standards in computer-aided design. Tobias Wallisser is Professor of Innova- tive Building and Spatial Concepts at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. After studying architecture at the University of Stuttgart and Columbia University in New York, he worked for Asymptote Architecture in New York and as an associated architect with UNStudio in Amsterdam. During this time, he was responsible for the design and execution of the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, a unique spatial creation that caused a sensation worldwide. Alexander Rieck has conducted research for the Fraunhofer Society for more than ten years. Having received a doctorate, he is a well-known expert in work and office organization, virtual reality, and future scenarios. He studied archi- tecture in Stuttgart and Arizona, USA, and has worked as an architect in various offices in Ger- many. He currently heads the Corporate Project department in Munich and is working with the Fraunhofer team for new materials, technolo- gies, and processes for future building.
