An urban gem
Townhouse in Cologne
Bielefeld. Renovation projects involving terraced homes from the 1920s often have an uncertain outcome. Dominic and Kerstin Kuck, the clients of a townhouse in the district of Poll in Cologne, had a similar experience. Thanks to the intelligent design created by the architect Christian Richter and new Schüco windows, they transformed a dark, dilapidated old building into an urban gem that is flooded with light.

At the beginning of 2021, the Kucks commissioned the architect Christian Richter to renovate their outdated old building. Thanks to the extension and the addition of an extra floor, the architect increased the living space from the original 120 square metres to 180 square metres and completely redesigned the garden façade in the process as well.

In the rear façade, the two floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows with fixed glazing from the Schüco LivIng system help to create a link with the outdoors. The dormer windows on the newly-added attic floor provide far-reaching views over the meadows of Poll all the way down to the Rhine.

It was very important for the clients to make their new home as open as possible. They achieved this thanks to Schüco windows, doors and sliding doors.
