Located in a quiet residential area of Tišnov in the Czech Republic, this family home blends in with its surroundings in an almost unobtrusive manner. Barely noticeable from the street, the building structure responds to the shape of the narrow, deep plot and the character of the neighbouring buildings.

Two offset building structures with saddle roofs and a shared ridge are attached to the rectangular floor plan. The chosen roofing brings the individual volumes together to create a consistent whole, flowing along the longitudinal axis of the plot. Topped with traditional, red-fired roof tiles, the first building section continues the style of the surrounding houses, while the roofs angled towards the garden feature a range of drought-resistant plants.

The design of the 208 m² new building and its interior follows the linear, functional concept of JVARCHITEKT: minimalist, white-plastered façades reflect the light and open design of the inside spaces. None of the glazing has window sills, in order to maximise the connection between the interior and the garden. Highly thermally insulated and Cradle to Cradle certified window and door systems from Schüco contribute towards making the building envelope energy-efficient and sustainable. A photovoltaic installation supplies the building with energy it has produced itself.
