Luxury hotel in the East Village

The Gantry is an eight storey hotel with an accessible rooftop in London. It is located in Stratford, in an area dominated by residential buildings with predominantly linear architecture. With the hotel's curved form and copper colour scheme, CA Architects Limited aimed to create a visual contrast with its surroundings. However, the façade does more than just stand out from the surrounding buildings, its appearance also has a historical background.

Inspired by the past

The narrow, vertical louvre blades of the hotel façade counterbalance the curved, horizontal units and are reminiscent of railway lines. That is not by chance. From 1840 to 1991 Stratford Works was based on the site, a locomotive building for Great Eastern Railway. The eye-catching façade design is a custom-made special construction based on the Schüco USC 65 unitised façade.

Functionality meet aesthetics

Schüco USC 65 allows considerable design freedom and offers maximum flexibility to adapt to project-specific requirements. The system is visually striking as a result of its continuous, consistently narrow sight lines of up to 65 mm and its architecturally interesting design options. A comprehensive range of accessories allows individual solutions to be created for unitised façades.
