Tian An 1000 Trees

Green oasis in Shanghai

All eyes are on the Tian An 1000 Trees building, which rises like a green mountain up out of a sea of grey skyscrapers. The name speaks for itself: inspired by the shape of a ragged mountain, the building structure provides space for a countless number of shrubs, bushes and creepers, which are showcased all over in seemingly giant flower pots.

Using plants as an air filter

Developed by London designer Thomas Heatherwick, the building embodies a unique fusion of nature and modern architecture. However, it is more than just an aesthetic statement: it also serves as an air filter in Shanghai, the largest city in China, which has a serious air pollution problem. With its diverse range of plants, Tian An 1000 Trees helps to improve the quality of life of its residents when visiting the shops, restaurants and galleries or working in the offices that are located there.

Folding Design sliding doors for maximum opening

In order for the lush greenery to be enjoyed in all its glory on the inside as well, thermally insulated Folding Design sliding doors from Schüco make the boundary between inside and outside all but disappear. The double doors can be easily pushed to one side and folded into a flat, narrow stack. This creates wide openings with no fixed sliding vents – for breathtaking views even when closed thanks to the narrow face widths.
