Schüco Liquid paint as surface finish
Liquid paints consist of binder, pigment and the necessary additives in organic solvents.
For architectural applications, the choice of bonding agent base - polyurethane or fluoropolymers (PVDF, Duraflon) - depends on the specific project requirements.
These paints are sprayed onto the pretreated aluminium surface and dried. During the drying process, discharge from the solvent forms a film, and thermal cross-linking of the polymer incorporates the pigment into the cross-linking paint. The coating process, number of paint layers, drying and cross-linking conditions are very dependent on the bonding agent used and the defined properties of the surface.
The Premium surface finish: Liquid paint
The choice of additives allows a wide range of colours, effects and gloss levels. The option of fine tuning these properties allows the aluminium surface to be matched with the appearance of other building materials such as steel or PVC-U or the creation of individual design highlights in combination with aluminium.
These systems are often used in architectural projects where the highest level of surface stability is required due to environmental and industrial influences and to facilitate cleaning.
Schüco has three graduated product ranges depending on the needs of the customer:
- The polyurethane product range has a full range of colours (RAL, metallics inc. haematite, a selection of special colours and colours from other ranges) and is suitable for average weathering and low emission levels.
- The Duraflon (single-layer fluoropolymer system) product range has a full range of colours (RAL, metallics inc. haematite, Schüco trend colours, a selection of special colours and colours from other ranges) and is suitable for extreme weathering and high emission levels. A maximum curing temperature of 180°C allows the use of composite profiles.
- The PVDF product range (2- to 4-layer fluoropolymer system; number of layers depends on choice of colour), which is internationally renowned and extremely popular, has a limited range of colours and is suitable for extreme weathering and high emission levels. A curing temperature of 240°C does not allow the use of composite profiles; only coating of half profiles and subsequent rolling is possible.
Duraflon and PVDF are suitable for use anywhere in the world thanks to their bonding agent base (resistance to UV radiation and weathering), and are also used in Europe where there is increased loading (industrial emissions, production areas, heavy exposure to UV radiation and cleaning products). A combination of pre-anodising and Duraflon is available to protect against filiform corrosion.
