BAU 2009 – Impressions

Once again this year, Schüco had the largest stand at BAU 2009. Over a period of six days, more than 210,000 visitors from 151 countries could obtain information about Schüco International KG’s international expertise.
With 5,000 employees and 12,000 partner companies in more than 75 countries, Schüco has a wide-ranging product portfolio with individual solutions that meet high energy-efficiency, security, convenience and design requirements. The tradeshow visitors were fascinated by the various state-of-the-art window and façade technologies and the efficient, sustainable solar solutions on exhibit in Munich. The Schüco 2° Concept and the Schüco E² Façade met with particular interest. To get a feeling for the general mood, profile asked various architects to give their personal impressions.

“If we want to maintain today’s living standards, we have to deal critically with how our resources are used. Both architects and companies like Schüco are important role models in this endeavor.”

David Cook, Architect, Stuttgart/GER

“Climatic influences on buildings vary with the seasons. While during the day the sun provides solar energy, at night dark outer space absorbs heat. The multilayered composition of the Schüco 2° Concept envelope actively utilizes solar radiation and additionally offers a dynamic U-value – the ideal adaptive building envelope.”

Prof. Stefan Behling/ Andreas Fuchs, Universität Stuttgart, Stuttgart/GER

“The most important thing is for us to save energy. All of us have an obligation to do so. If we can additionally generate energy with intelligent systems, then that’s wonderful.”

Karl Anthonissen, Architect, Bruxelles/B

“Energy efficiency and design can no longer be separated. They have to be viewed holistically already when new products and are researched and developed.”

Nicola Leonardi, editor-in-chief of „The Plan“, Bologna/I

“With the solar shading, which in the event of fire shoots upwards in a matter of seconds, I found at the Schüco stand the exact product I was looking for. This attests to technological know-how, coupled with a feeling for the needs of architects.”

Bert Bethge, Architect, Hamburg/GER

“I’m looking forward to when the Schüco 2° Concept goes on the market. They’ve created a technologically advanced system that also has an appealing design.”

Bernhard Steinkopf, Architect, Hamburg/GER

“An important focus of future architecture will be combining compatibility and aesthet-ics. Naturally, in my heart I want to give the user an attractive building. But that alone will not be sufficient in the future.”

Michel Petit, Architect, Luxembourg/LUX

“I always wanted to make energy usable the way the Schüco 2° Concept allows and I see the future as being palpably close in this concept.”

Pekka Mäki, Architect, Turku/FIN

“Sustainable building requires that architects do not use composite designs, consider maintenance and disassembly during planning, and view buildings as modular systems consisting of reusable components. Schüco’s approaches are appropriate because they think in terms of detachable layers that can be optimized separately.”

Prof. Manfred Hegger, Architect, Kassel/GER

“The new Schüco E² Façade represents the future of façade construction. It provides us with ‘living objects’ that change their shape in the course of the day and thus greatly enrich every building.”

Prof. Dr. Dragan Buđevac, Architect, Belgrade/SRB

“It’s very impressive to see how intensively Schüco continually researches and develops new ideas and products.”

Alexandros N. Tombazis, Architect, Athens/GR

“I was so impressed by the intensive research and development that I spent a total of three hours at the Schüco stand. I was also fascinated by the extensive testing of every technological innovation before it goes into production.”

Matti Anttila, Architect, Helsinki/FIN

“We will deal strongly with saving energy in the years to come. It’s great to see that at Schüco enormous sums are being invested in research and development and that the importance of the issue is already being made accessible to a wide public here and now.”

Bernd Blaufelder, Secretary General of the BDA, Berlin/GER

“The best energy is that which you don’t need to begin with. Here the building envelope has moved from a little-noticed to a very important issue.”

Jörg Lindenberger, Architect, Ludwigsburg/GER

“Due to current international energy prices, saving energy is an absolute must for future architecture.”

Armand La Belle, Architect, New York/USA

“We are dealing intensively with the topic of photovoltaics and found interesting answers to our questions here at Schüco’s stand: How we can use photovoltaics to produce energy better.”

Enrique Martinez Piqueras, Architect, Madrid/E
