Another vital part of the overall project is the conversion of the so-called “Stockwerksfab- rik”. In the south wing there is a learning and adventure world, in the north wing, an educa- tion centre with corporate training centre. In the new culture and education centre, com- munication and language are connected in a playfully entertaining and educational way, in the unique hands-on exhibition titled “wort- reich” (rich in words). In addition, another building of historic importance is being devel- oped as a university centre. The biggest building site in Bad Hersfeld The total redevelopment of the site is currently the biggest building site in Bad Hersfeld. The first areas like the central square (Wette und Küneke), learning and adventure world “wort- reich” in the Stockwerksfabrik (Kleineberg and Partner – Building, Petri and Tiemann / molitor – Exhibition) and a car park (Hersfeld architect Frank Dorbritz) were already open in 2011, well ahead of estimated completion dates. The completion of the overall site works is expect- ed in 2012. Architect Uwe Kleineberg explains the poten- tial of the Schildepark: “The listed industrial sites give this area its unique identity. Its close proximity to the city centre gives the project enormous appeal way beyond the city limits.” Ein weiteres Kernstück des Gesamtprojektes ist der Umbau der sogenannten „Stockwerks- fabrik“: Im Südflügel entsteht eine Wissens- und Erlebniswelt, im Nordflügel des Baus ein Bildungszentrum mit überbetrieblicher Ausbildungsstätte. In dem neuen Kultur- und Bildungszentrum werden in einer einmaligen Mitmachausstellung – mit dem Titel „wort- reich“ – zum Thema Kommunikation und Sprache spielerisch Unterhaltungs- und Bil- dungsangebote verknüpft. Außerdem wird ein weiteres Baudenkmal zum Hochschulstandort ausgebaut. Die größte Baustelle in Bad Hersfeld Der Gesamtumbau des Areals ist aktuell die größte Baustelle Bad Hersfelds. Erste Berei- che, wie die zentrale Plaza (Wette und Küne- ke), die Wissens- und Erlebniswelt „wortreich“ in der Stockwerksfabrik (Kleineberg und Part- ner – Hochbau, Petri und Tiemann / molitor – Ausstellung) und ein Parkhaus (des Hersfelder Architekten Frank Dorbritz) wurden – dem ur- sprünglich angesetzten Zeitplan weit voraus – bereits 2011 eröffnet, die Fertigstellung des Gesamtareals ist 2012 anvisiert. Architekt Uwe Kleineberg formuliert das Po- tential des Schildeparks: „Die denkmalge- schützten Industriegebäude sorgen für die einzigartige Identität des Ortes. Auch die ein- malige Nähe zum Stadtkern gibt dem Projekt eine enorme Strahlkraft weit über die Stadt- grenzen hinaus.“ Grundriss: Die Veranstaltungshalle wird für die Bad Hersfelder Festspiele, Konzerte und Theateraufführungen genutzt.
