26 12 Werte leben | dialog Safe Haven Library, Ban Tha Song Yang/Thailand TYIN tegnestue Architects Safe Haven Library, Ban Tha Song Yang/Thailand TYIN tegnestue Architects “Architecture is about the understanding of the world and turning it into a more meaningful and humane place.” Juhanie Pallasma In January 2009, TYIN invited 15 architectural students from the NTNU Trondheim, Norway, to take part in a workshop for the Safe Haven orphan- age in Thailand. The workshop was run by Prof. Hans Kotte and the architect Sami Rintala. The construction of sanitary facilities and a library, which was built within two weeks with the aid of local workers, were the most pressing issues. For the library, local building materials were used, such as bamboo for the façades, which are permeable to light and air, and a solid wooden construction as the load-bearing element. © Pasi Aalto, www.pasiaalto.com „In der Architektur geht es immer um das Verstehen der Welt und darum, sie in einen menschlichen und sinnstiftenden Ort zu verwandeln.” Juhanie Pallasma Im Januar 2009 lud TYIN 15 Architekturstudenten der NTNU Trondheim/NO ein, an einem Workshop für das Waisenhaus Safe Haven in Thailand mit- zuwirken. Den Workshop leiteten Prof. Hans Kotte und der Architekt Sami Rintala. Am dringlichsten war der Bau von sanitären Einrichtungen und einer Bibliothek, welche innerhalb von zwei Wochen mithilfe von ortsansässigen Arbeitern errichtet werden konnte. Für die Bibliothek kamen lokale Baustoffe zum Einsatz, so Bambus für die licht- und luftdurchlässigen Fassaden und eine solide Holzkonstruktion als tragendes Element.
