2512dialog | Bringing values to life Kibera is located in the south west of Nairobi and is considered one of the largest slums in Africa. Here, the people live in the smallest of spaces; their dwellings are rusty corrugated iron shacks. In January 2009, the street artist JR covered a roof surface area of around 2 km2 with large-format, printed tarpaulins. They show the eyes and faces of the women of the slum or the residents of the respective shack. The tarpaulins protect the fragile dwell- ings from the heavy rain which falls between March and May. The Nairobi- Kisumu railway line runs straight through the tin roof settlement. JR also had the eyes of the women printed on the trains on this route. ©JR
