Ein ifes-Projekt kleineren Formats ist das Badeschiff an der Spree in Berlin von Gil Wilk und Thomas Freiwald. Doch auch im Ausland ist das Team um Gerhard Hoffmann tätig: In St. Petersburg beispielsweise entsteht nach den Plänen von nps tchoban voss derzeit das Newskij Rathaus, dessen zentrales Atrium und die Glaskuppel auf dem Energie- und Klimakonzept des Kölner Instituts basiert. Auch wenn nicht alle der rund 1400 Projekte von Anfang bis Ende von der ifes begleitet wurden, so tritt das Institut doch vor allem dann in Erscheinung, wenn Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht werden müssen: Was muss der Planer bauphysikalisch, fassadentechnisch, strömungstech- nisch oder klimatechnisch beachten? Meist tritt er mit einer gezielten Aufgabenstellung zu energetischen, bauphysikalischen und/oder Zer- tifizierungsfragen an die ifes heran. Für die Qualitätssicherung und die Begleitung der Projektrealisation entsteht der Kontakt in der Regel über den Architekten, Bauherrn oder Investor. Eine derartige Bandbreite an Leistungen anbieten zu können, spricht für die ifes und den Leitspruch „Heute an morgen denken“. ifes Mit Willenskraft und dem Gespür für den richtigen Zeitpunkt hat Ger- hard Hoffmann erfolgreich ein vielseitig agierendes Unternehmen auf- gebaut – das dennoch seinen persönlichen Charakter bewahrt hat und das gerade in Zeiten der Globalisierung auf eben jene Werte setzt. Der persönliche Kontakt zu den Kunden ist Hoffmann wichtig – weshalb auch er meist den ersten Kontakt zum Kunden hat. Das Ziel: eine gelun- gene Zusammenarbeit mit dem Team der ifes. Sympathie und gegen- seitiges Verständnis werden dabei großgeschrieben, ja vorausgesetzt. Um den Kontakt zur Wissenschaft und Forschung zu halten, war Hoff- mann bereits von 2000 bis 2008 als Dozent und Lehrbeauftragter im Fachbereich Architektur an der Hochschule in Münster tätig. Seit 2013 lehrt er an der FH Südwestfalen im Bereich Gebäudesimulation. Kaum zu glauben, dass sich noch Zeit für Vorträge und Veranstaltungen fin- det, auf denen Hoffmann immer wieder ein gern gesehener Gast ist: So sprach er beispielsweise zur BAU 2013 oder zur e-world energy & water. Gerhard Hoffmann ist akkreditierter Senior Auditor der DGNB – was allein schon für volle Terminpläne und Projekte sorgt. Für Familie bleibt da wenig Zeit, so der erste Gedanke. Doch das stimmt nicht ganz: Schon 1998 stieg Heide Hoffmann in das Unternehmen ihres Mannes ein; sie ist seitdem für das BackOffice und Marketing verantwortlich. Auch Hoffmanns Tochter ist mittlerweile als BREEAM DE Auditorin im Unternehmen tätig. Für die Zukunft und das weitere Wachstum der ifes im In- und Ausland wurde bereits gesorgt. Die Familie Hoffmann hat zur Stärkung und Erweiterung der Wertschöpfungskette für Gebäude und Produktion seit September 2013 den TÜV Rheinland Industrie Ser- vice als Gesellschafter aufgenommen. Die ifes wird mit einem größeren Leistungsspektrum als eigenständige Tochter weiterhin in allen bishe- rigen Bereichen und Leistungen der Ansprechpartner bleiben und ge- meinsam mit dem Kunden die flexiblen und richtigen Lösungen finden. Gerhard Hoffmann wird auch in Zukunft die Themen Energieeffizienz und Nachhaltigkeit durch solide Beratungstätigkeit und durch den Ein- satz modernster Tools unterstützen und dem Ziel des gesamten ifes- Teams „Heute an morgen denken“ treu bleiben. For the LEED certi cation, Energy Modeling with a “Whole Building Simulation” was carried out for the LEED Platinum rating. Also included in the ifes portfolio are the ThyssenKrupp headquarters in Essen, which received the DGNB Gold certi cate with Hoffmann as the Senior Auditor respon- sible. A smaller scale ifes project is the “Badeschiff” oating swimming pool on the River Spree in Berlin by Gil Wilk and Thomas Freiwald. Ger- hard Hoffmann and his team are also active overseas. In St. Petersburg, for example, the Nevsky town hall, which is currently being built in ac- cordance with the designs of nps tchoban voss, has a central atrium and glass dome that are based on the energy and climate concept of the Cologne institute. Even if the ifes has not seen all of its approximately 1400 projects right through from start to nish, the institute is always present when the key decisions need to be made, i.e. what must the developer consider in terms of building physics, façade technology, uid technology and the climate? They mostly approach the ifes with a speci c task relating to energy, building physics and/or certi cation issues. For the quality as- surance and supervision of the implementation of the project, contact is normally made through the architects, clients or investors. Being able to offer such a wide range of services is an asset for the ifes and bears out their motto of “Thinking about tomorrow, today”. ifes With willpower and an instinct for the right timing, Gerhard Hoffmann has successfully built up a multi-faceted company which has neverthe- less retained its personal character and which, in times of globalisation, draws upon those very values. Personal contact with customers is im- portant to Hoffmann, which is why initial contact with the customer is mostly made by him. The aim is successful cooperation with the ifes team. Mutual understanding and appreciation are a top priority – a pre- requisite even. To keep abreast of developments in academia and research, Hoffmann worked as a lecturer in the Architecture Faculty at the University of Mün- ster between 2000 and 2008. Since 2013, he has taught Building Simu- lation at South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. It’s hard to believe that Hoffmann still nds time to give presentations and attend events, where he is always a welcome guest – for example, he spoke at BAU 2013 and E-world energy & water. Gerhard Hoffmann is an ac- credited senior auditor of the DGNB, which alone ensures he has a busy schedule of appointments and projects. One might think that all this leaves little time for family. But that is not entirely the case. Since 1998, Heide Hoffmann has been working at her husband’s company and is in charge of the back of ce and marketing. Hoffmann’s daughter has also now taken up the position of BREEAM DE auditor for the company. Provi- sions have already been made for the future and for the further growth of the company both nationally and internationally. To reinforce and expand the value added chain for buildings and production, the Hoffmann family became partners in TÜV Rheinland Industry Service GmbH in September 2013. As an independent subsidiary with a broad spectrum of services, the ifes will remain the contact for all of its existing areas of expertise and services and will work together with customers to nd exible and appropriate solutions. Gerhard Hoffmann will continue to support the topics of energy ef ciency and sustainability in future through reliable consultancy and by using state-of-the-art tools and will remain true to the aim of the entire ifes team: “Thinking about tomorrow, today”.
