Der dritte große Schwerpunkt, betitelt mit „Metrozonen“, liegt auf dem Aspekt des inneren Wachstums der Städte: gezeigt wird, wie sich zentrale, oft vernachläs- sigte Orte neu verbinden und (wieder)beleben lassen. Insgesamt 63 Neu- und Umbauten sieht die Bauaus- stellung vor; davon waren bereits 46 zur Eröffnung des IBA-Präsentationsjahrs im März und elf weitere im Sommer fertiggestellt. Darüber hinaus wurde eine Vielzahl sozialer und kultureller Projekte wie z.B. die „Bildungsoffensive Elbinsel” ins Leben gerufen. Die Einordnung der Projekte ist oft themenübergrei- fend möglich; alle Bauten sind beispielsweise ent- sprechend der Ziele der „Stadt im Klimawandel” kon- zipiert. Allerdings lassen sich für das jeweilige Projekt bestimmte Hauptcharakteristika herausstellen. Im Folgenden ein kurzer Überblick: Die IBA-Projekte – ein exemplarischer Querschnitt Ganz in der Tradition der Bauausstellungen stehend – die erste fand 1901 in Darmstadt unter Joseph Maria Olbrich statt – geht es unter dem Motto „Kosmopo- lis“ vornehmlich um soziale, kulturelle und – im Sin- ne der Zeit Olbrichs – lebensreformerische Ziele. So entstanden in Wilhelmsburg neben zahlreichen Bil- dungseinrichtungen ein Künstlerzentrum sowie der sogenannte Weltgewerbehof, ein Gewerbezentrum für vorwiegend migrantische Kleinst- und Kleinbetrie- be. Ebenfalls ein programmatisch wie architektonisch gelungenes Beispiel ist das Sprach- und Bewegungs- zentrum des Hamburger Büros eins:eins architekten, ein Projekt, das sich der rhythmischen Spracherzie- hung von Migrantenkindern widmet, oder das im Mai eröffnete Bildungszentrum „Tor zur Welt” von bof architekten, Hamburg. Dieser Großkomplex von ca. 22.000 m2 Bruttogeschossﬂäche besteht aus vier ver- schiedenen Bildungseinrichtungen, einem Multifunk- tionszentrum als stadtteilöffentlichen Bereich, einem zentralen Platz und der gläsernen „Energiezentrale“. Städtebaulich schließt der Komplex die bestehende, nach Osten hin offene Blockstruktur des Eisenbahn- viertels ab. Zum größten Teil im Passivhausstandard errichtet, wurde der Campus mit dem Preis „Archi- tektur mit Energie” des Bundesministeriums für Wirt- schaft für energie-optimiertes Bauen ausgezeichnet. Das bereits 2012 fertiggestellte „Haus der Projekte – die mügge“ von Studio NL-D, Rotterdam, ist ebenfalls Teil der „Bildungsoffensive Hamburg”. In der Boots- werkstatt, die äußerlich an ein traditionelles Werft- gebäude erinnert, werden Jugendliche handwerklich ausgebildet. Jugendliche waren es auch, die mit eige- nen Händen an der Realisierung des Gebäudes mit- gewirkt hatten. Auch mit dem im Juni fertiggestellten „Pﬂegeheim Inselpark“ von feddersenarchitekten, Berlin, geht die IBA auf die Bedürfnisse der vorwie- gend migrantischen Bevölkerung Wilhelmsburgs ein. Das Zentrum weist eine breite Vielfalt an Nutzungen Wilhelmsburg” climate protection concept to demon- strate how construction in times of climate change can be environmentally friendly or even carbon neu- tral. The third key focal point, entitled “Metrozones”, concentrates on the issue of the internal growth of cities. It demonstrates how central areas, which are often neglected, can be reconnected and have life breathed (back) into them. The building exhibition has plans for a total of 63 newbuild and renovation projects. 46 of these were already complete by the time the IBA presentation year commenced in March, and eleven further projects during the summer. A multitude of social and cultural projects, such as the “Elbe Islands Education Drive”, was also launched. The projects can often be classified under all the themes; all the buildings, for example, are designed in accordance with the aims of the “Cities and Climate Change” theme. However, certain key features can be highlighted for each project. The following is a brief overview: The IBA projects – A cross section of examples Fully in line with the tradition of the building exhibi- tions (the first took place in 1901 in Darmstadt under Joseph Maria Olbrich), the “Cosmopolis” theme is primarily concerned with social, cultural and (in the terms of Olbrich's era) reformist aims. Accordingly, in addition to numerous educational establishments, an artistic centre and the so-called World Commer- cial Park (a commercial centre for migrant micro and small businesses) have been constructed in Wilhelms- burg. An example of a project which is successful in terms of both its agenda and architecture is the Cen- tre of Language and Exercise by the Hamburg office of eins:eins architekten, a project which is devoted to the rhythmic linguistic education of migrant children, or the “Gateway to the World” educational centre opened in May by bof architekten from Hamburg. This large complex with approximately 22,000 m2 gross floor space consists of four different educational es- tablishments, a multi-purpose centre as a public area, a central square and the glass “Energy Centre”. In terms of urban development, the complex completes the existing block structure of the railway district which opens to the east. The campus, the majority of which has been constructed to passive house stan- dard, received the “Architecture with Energy” award from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for energy-optimised building. The “House of Projects – die mügge”, which was al- ready completed in 2012 by Studio NL-D from Rotter- dam, is also part of the “Hamburg Education Drive”. Young people receive hands-on training in the boat- building workshop, which is reminiscent of a tradi- tional dockyard building from the outside. Young people were even involved in the construction of the building with their own hands. The IBA is also catering to the needs of the predominantly migrant population of Wilhelmsburg with the “Island Park Care Home”, „Eine Bauausstellung ist immer etwas Ganzheitliches, wie Olbrich sagte, aber auch eine Ausstellung, die sich mit technologischen und bautechnischen Neuheiten befasst.
