22 10 Das World Trade Center in New York wurde bei den Anschlägen vom 11. September 2001 nahezu vollständig zerstört. Auf „Ground Zero”, wie der Platz seitdem ge- nannt wird, entsteht bis 2013 das One World Trade Center. Die Ei- gentümer des Grundstücks, die Hafenbehörde von New York und New Jersey und Silverstein Properties, hatten sich für einen radikalen Neuanfang entschie- den: Das neue Gebäude der Ar- chitekten Skidmore, Owings and Merrill ist architektonisch eigen- ständig. Der 2013 fertiggestell- te Bau wird mit mehr als 540m das höchste Gebäude New Yorks sein. The World Trade Center in New York was destroyed following the attacks of September 11th , 2001. At “Ground Zero”, as the site has been called since the attacks, the One World Trade Center is expected to be completed in 2013. The owner of the site, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Silverstein Pro- perties, had decided for a radical new approach. The new tower by architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill is architecturally unique.
