Political unrest, the economic and euro crisis, and not least the planned phase-out of the use of nuclear power are kindling discussion about the topic of “responsibility”. People are currently being called upon to show responsibility and act conscientiously in various contexts. profile09 picks up on the current responsibility debate. A myriad of aspects are dealt with, including people’s responsibility towards their fellow human beings and the coming generations; the responsibility of policymaking and economics for environmental and climate protection; the responsibility of industry and research for developing new technologies; and, not least, the responsibility of architects and architecture for creating future living spaces. Die Diskussion über den Wert und die Kosten von Umwelt- und Klimaschutz sowie den Schutz der betroffenen Menschen hält weiter an. Viel zu lange wurde beispielsweise die Frage nach dem Energiekonzept zu einseitig an den reinen Produkti- onskosten orientiert. Es müssen saubere Lösungen gefunden werden: hin zu regenerativen Energien, zur nachhaltigen Schonung natürlicher Ressourcen und einem gewissenhaften Umgang mit Mensch, Umwelt und Technik. Dies bedeutet letztendlich, für Unternehmen und Privatpersonen Verantwortung zu übernehmen, Verantwortung für die Umwelt und Verantwortung für kommende Generationen. Gewissenhaftes und nachhaltiges Handeln wird von allen Akteuren und in sämtlichen Bereichen erwartet, unabhängig, ob es sich um die Mitbestimmung in einer demokra- tischen Gesellschaft, um die private Vorsorge des Einzelnen oder die soziale Verantwortung von Un- ternehmen handelt. Verantwortung zu übernehmen, heißt immer ganzheitlich zu denken. Einige dieser Aspekte sind mittlerweile genau definiert und re- glementiert, während sich andere noch in einem Entwicklungsprozess befinden. As- suming responsibility means thinking holistically. Some of these aspects are now defined and regu- lated precisely, while others are still in a process of development. Responsible construction, for exam- ple, is often equated with sustainable construction. Certification systems are used to document this aspect of responsibility.
