5309projects | Hogeschool INHolland – Rietveld Architects Founded in 2001, today INHolland University (hoge- school) has more than 33,500 students in ten loca- tions in the Netherlands and offers a large selection of internationally-oriented bachelor’s degrees, from a degree in International Business Management to one in Tourism & Recreation Management. When the decision was made to increase the space in Delft, New York-based Rietveld Architects received the commission to design a new building that was supposed to incorporate the departments of agricul- ture and aviation and nautical technology, as well as administrative spaces, and at the same time be flex- ible, transparent, communicative, and emblematic. In addition, the client wanted the building to have an innovative design, yet be realized quickly and on a tight budget. Initially, the architects translated these demanding requirements into two architectural concepts. Im Zuge einer Vergrößerung des Raumangebots in Delft erhielt das New Yorker Architekturbüro Rietveld Architects den Auftrag, ei- nen Neubau zu konzipieren, der sowohl die Bereiche „Landwirtschaft“ und „Luft- und Schifffahrttech- nik“ wie auch Verwaltungsflächen aufnehmen und zugleich flexibel, transparent, kommunikativ und identitätsstiftend sein sollte. Hinzu kam der Wunsch nach einem gestalterisch innovativen Gebäude, das jedoch innerhalb eines knappen Zeit- und Kosten- rahmens zu realisieren war. Dieses anspruchsvolle Anforderungsprofil übersetz- ten die Architekten zunächst in zwei Architektur- konzepte.
