32 09 LAVA – Laboratory for Visionary Architecture | portrait The first question is about the title of the exhibi- tion. Why “Tomorrow never dies”? Alexander Rieck | As a “Laboratory for Visionary Ar- chitecture” LAVA is concerned with visions per se. Visions imply looking to the future. As a laboratory, we go a step further. We are not an architectural of- fice, not an artistically oriented studio, and not an ar- chitecture factory. We deal intensively with research. That means, we have an agenda that we tackle with scientific standards and which includes many future issues. Tobias Wallisser | So “Tomorrow never dies” means two things to us. We have many projects in the East. There are different issues that are important there than in Western industrialized countries. It’s about how a young, growing population can manage to take the step from an energy export society to a post-fossil knowledge society, and do so in the city of tomorrow. Secondly, the title provides an optimistic view of the future. Tomorrow never dies Die erste Frage betrifft den Titel der Ausstellung – warum „Tomorrow never dies“? Alexander Rieck | LAVA hat als „Laboratory for Visi- onary Architecture“ per se schon etwas mit Visionen zu tun. Es impliziert, in die Zukunft zu blicken. Als La- bor gehen wir noch einen Schritt weiter: Wir sind kein Architekturbüro, kein künstlerisch ausgerichtetes Studio und keine Architekturfabrik. Wir beschäftigen uns intensiv mit Forschung. Das heißt, wir haben eine Agenda, die wir mit wissenschaftlichem Anspruch bearbeiten, und auf der stehen viele Zukunftsthemen. Tobias Wallisser | Insofern bedeutet „Tomorrow ne- ver dies“ für uns zweierlei: Wir haben viele Projekte im Morgenland. Dort zählen andere Themen als in den westlichen Industrieländern. Es geht darum, wie es einer jungen, wachsenden Bevölkerung gelingen kann, den Schritt von der Energieexportgesellschaft zur postfossilen Wissensgesellschaft zu gehen, und das in der Stadt von morgen.
