Buildings of the future with a positive energy balance

Fenster

Rising demands

In the future, in accordance with the amended EU directive on the energy performance of buildings, the overall energy efficiency of buildings will be subject to ever higher demands. This is because, in Europe, they are responsible for about 40 % of primary energy requirements. In the EU, starting in 2018 new public buildings will have to produce most of the energy they consume themselves; in 2020 this will also apply to all private buildings. This presents the building industry with great opportunities. What is at stake is environmental protection and limiting global warming. Schüco is aware of this responsibility and is developing effective solutions for preserving the blue planet.

The goal: energetically self-sufficient buildings

The name Schüco stands for energy efficient building and modernisation with windows, doors, façades and solar like no other. What is more: Schüco Energy Network solutions combine innovative technology with outstanding design. At the same time, they slash the energy requirements for new or modernised buildings, up to and including solutions for energetically self-sufficient buildings with a positive overall energy balance. The key to this sustainable economic model is the comprehensive use of solar energy. Integrated into extremely efficient building envelopes, the result is impressive: in every country and every climatic zone in the world.

Realising energy efficiency

Schüco energy classes demonstrate solutions for energy requirements

Saving energy, generating energy and connecting energy to a network are three essential functions of Schüco energy buildings. This is because with Schüco system solutions buildings in almost every climatic zone in the world can be brought in line with different energy efficiency standards. To provide clear orientation here, Schüco has developed energy classes. They demonstrate how Schüco solutions actively shape the energy efficiency of a building: from the fulfilment of current energy standards up to and including a positive energy balance. Schüco energy buildings in the classes E, E2 and E3 thus provide clear, simple and immediately recognisable orientation for the energy requirements of buildings in every climatic zone.

Energy3 buildings

Energy3 buildings produce more energy than they consume and realise many functions in an energetically self-sufficient way. Thanks to intelligent management and accumulation, the Schüco SmartNet supplies numerous direct current appliances with clean solar energy, such as LED lights, ventilation, cooling, automation, IT-systems or batteries of electric vehicles.

Energy2buildings

Schüco solutions for Energy2 buildings save and generate energy. As a result, they achieve a minimal primary energy requirement, which is below 40 kWh per square metre and year. They combine effective heat insulation and solar protection with photovoltaics, hybrid ventilation, solar cooling and the automation of numerous building envelope functions.

Energy buildings

Schüco solutions for energy buildings save energy. In terms of primary energy requirements they meet at least all legal requirements in the country in which they are built. Schüco achieves this in every climatic zone with optimally insulated windows, doors and façades as well as effective solar protection.

Modular solutions from Schüco for worldwide use

Building envelopes with Schüco systems for windows, doors, façades and solar can be easily adapted to conditions in every climatic zone and to the desired energy requirements. This is because all Schüco systems are modular in design. The perfectly tuned systems for windows, doors and façades permit rational manufacture and optimised assembly for any purpose. The result: high cost and process efficiency, secure planning and realisation, weather-resistance and maximum design freedom.

Energy requirements are also manageable. In every country, on every continent and in any climate.

Climatic zone A – cold / temperate
Fenster

In cold and temperate climates distinct seasons impose tough demands on building envelopes. Winters are cold, summers occasionally very hot, moisture and dryness can alternate in rapid succession. Buildings in this climatic zone require excellent heat insulation, effective cooling in the summer and ventilation with low heat loss in the winter. Passive and active solar energy can be put to good use.

Climatic zone B – warm
Fenster

In a subtropical alternating climate the summers are hot and dry, the winters mild and rainy. The solar altitude in the winter is also quite high. Heat insulation, cooling and air conditioning place special demands on the building’s ground plan, building form and components, as well as on the use of solar energy.

Climatic zone C – dry / desert
Fenster

In this climate temperatures fluctuate widely on a daily basis. The brief, often intense rainy seasons can be separated by several years. Solar energy is abundant. Heat insulation, solar protection and cooling are needed to compensate for the considerable temperature fluctuations.

Climatic zone D – tropical
Fenster

Tropical alternating climate with very high temperatures, rainy and dry seasons test every house to its limits. Humidity increases with proximity to the equator as does the constant heat. Solar protection, cooling and dehumidification, fed from renewable energy sources, are the crucial functions.
